MODIFYING SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF CSL/PSL
Since 1994, New Jersey has adopted what is called Megan’s Law for handling issues involving sex offenders. Along with this statute have come other requirements, including Parole Supervision for Life (PSL) or Community Supervision for Life (CSL) provisions. Depending on what year you were convicted of a sex offense, you could be operating under CSL or PSL provisions. It is important to have a lawyer in your corner who understands the difference and can obtain a modification of your special conditions if one is necessary.
Our Morristown lawyers at Maynard Law Office, LLC have a complete understanding of all rules relating to CSL and PSL provisions. If you have questions or think a modification may help you, contact our team today.
What Are Special Conditions of PSL/CSL?
In addition to the general conditions of parole, registered sex offenders who have been sentenced to CSL or PSL, may also have special conditions, including but not limited to:
- Internet access restrictions
- Prohibition against possessing an Internet-capable device
- Prohibition from living with children (including their own)
- Prohibition from use of social media
- Prohibition for consuming alcohol
- GPS-monitoring
- Curfew
Special conditions can be established at the time of sentencing, however, there are many incidents when the New Jersey State Parole Board adds a special condition after the registrant has been on CSL/PSL for years. Special conditions are usually associated with the originating offense. For instance, if an individual is convicted of luring a minor via a chat room, he or she may have a special condition prohibiting Internet access.
