Megan’s Law Appellate Lawyer
At Maynard Law Office, LLC, we believe strongly in protecting people’s rights throughout the legal process – representing those who want to file appeals and post-conviction relief petitions. Even if you have been convicted of a crime, you still have rights. For instance, you have the right to appeal the trial court’s rulings. We represent those who want to file appeals and post-conviction relief petitions.
If you have already served your sentence but face additional sanctions, such as Community Supervison for Life (CSL) or Megan’s Law, you need an experienced lawyer now more than ever. Our law firm helps people across New Jersey seek all forms of post-conviction relief.
Click on any of the following to learn more about how we can help you:
- Appeals: If the trial court made legal errors in your case, you can appeal the judge’s decision. Our law firm will review the trial transcripts and identify the trial court’s errors. We will then prepare a persuasive brief for the appellate court. If oral arguments are necessary, our New Jersey post-conviction lawyers will be ready to take action and present persuasive oral argument.
- Post-conviction relief: If there was a substantial denial of your rights under the Constitution, if the court lacked jurisdiction, or if your sentence was in excess of the sentence authorized by law, or other major legal flaws in your case, you may have grounds for post-conviction relief. Our law firm will review the facts of your case and advise you as to your options.
- Avenel (ADTC) Evaluation: Generally, a person convicted of a sex offense in NJ will undergo an evaluation at ADTC. A psychologist will determine whether a person’s actions were “repetitive and compulsive.” The results of the evaluation determine where a convicted sex offender may serve his sentence. Individuals can challenge the State’s recommendation before sentencing.
- Challenge Civil Commitment: The State can petition to “civilly commit” certain sex offenders who are almost done with their sentence. Our firm has experience and is available to represent clients at preliminary and final commitment hearings.
