MODIFICATION & TERMINATION OF MEGAN’S LAW, Parole Supervision for Life (PSL), and COMMUNITY SUPERVISION FOR LIFE (CSL)
The laws governing Megan’s Law and Community Supervision for Life (“CSL”) are still relatively new. These laws subject the offender to many restrictions and limitations on their lives and freedom. However, people convicted as sex offenders can file an application for termination of Megan’s law and CSL if they have committed no more offenses, 15 years following conviction or release from a correctional facility (whichever is later), and do not pose a threat to others.
People convicted of sex crimes are punished by the courts, judged by the court of public opinion, and monitored by police and parole officers. Convicted sex offenders face rejection and discrimination in the community by a system which notifies residents in advance when they will be released and where they will be residing.
If you are facing sex crime charges, or have been convicted of a sex offense (including sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, luring, endangering the welfare of a minor, or any other sex-related offense), you can rely on the knowledge of the criminal defense attorneys at Maynard Law Office, LLC in Morristown. We have successfully petitioned the State Court’s on behalf of clients to terminate sex offender registration or modify the terms of the registration.

Comprehensive Representation on Behalf of Clients
Many clients do not realize that conviction of a crime such as rape or a crime involving children may lead to lifetime registration as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law. A sex crimes conviction often makes it difficult to qualify for professional licensing or find a job, or even find a place to live. Under the rules governing CSL, a parole officer has the right to visit you at home without notice. If you are registered sex offender, you must register with the local police, and may also be posted on the online New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
Our attorneys have represented a number of sex offenders who are convicted as juveniles and who are now required to register under Megan’s Law and Community Supervision for Life, or CSL. We have also represented juveniles who are charged with sex crimes.
It is difficult to pursue termination and modification of Megan’s Law registration and CSL, and we have been successful at both. Tier classifications may be modified or reduced (for example, tier two may be reduced to a tier one).
